In retrospect the shows meant for kids in those days were way better about transformations, and fan service, and fan servicey transformations than we ever see these days. Newer shows are way tamer. Pervy, but also very slow and boring with the "sensible dialogue" and girls beating up or toying with the boys, the latter which is a common trope now in American media. Maybe it's a way of communicating the idea that men have done enough colonial damage to this world all because of a certain sense of inadequacy?
