Thanks for pointing that out.

As far as the project goes, I thought figuring out what to do before anyone starts asking for money might be a good idea. Start with a story at least.

Regardless I think one or a few people should take the lead. I think it needs a clear direction.

Agreed. There needs to be a producer here.

It's amazing that this has already descended into debate when two fundamental questions still need answering:
1) what do we want (we need a story/script/treatment).
2) how much will it cost (based on answer to 1)

Someone needs to step up and answer #1, in a Producer role, or we at least answer #1 as a group and then choose the Producer(s).

Absolutely no point in debating money until that's answered.

Democracy is useful at this point. Put out a call for ideas and then vote.
Once an idea is hatched, then get commitments for money, and the budget will go from there.

No, it is not. One of my primary jobs is to deliver software products. When building them, every stakeholder has an opinion. A project manager is needed to cut through the mess of ideas and desires and keep the train running smoothly down the right track. A democracy is the best way to get "muddled mess" and having no project owner/manager is a great way to never deliver anything. Without it, the best ideas in the world are just wishes.

So one still needs to come up with an idea.
