As someone who's written for the GC in the past, it wasn't a bad experience. Just make sure you've got all the paperwork taken care of, and you'll see a decent bit of extra cash. Heck, I'd do more for it, but given I'm employed, I lack the time.

Sign the contracts, write up the documentation to go with the stories, send them the information they need to pay you, stuff like that. They send you everything you need.
