Re: Invitation of a Feminist Critique of the Process Forum

I just want to say that I find the responses to be very interesting and quite varied. I think such a discussion is important to have, regardless if this is a fetish website and regardless if any of the ideas discussed will impact its dealings. I tried to present the issue in a non-accusatory fashion while still presenting my viewpoint.

I appreciate the sarcastic humor of suggesting such a posting on a Camaro-lovers forum, but relevant discourse could be instantiated there as well, pertaining to marketing and target audiences and how this fits into to larger issues of minority-majority interactions and racial stereotyping. I personally wouldn't mind having a Camaro, but I'd settle for having a car first.

In any case, no harm is intended by the post and no detraction from the activity of the site. Such a post is here to promote a greater awareness of the topic and self-reflection in a fetishistic community. I have found that some individuals here are quick to anger and very defensive with regard their preferences and viewpoints---that attempts at promoting level-headed discussions have often failed due to their presentation as polemical attacks.

So my goal here was two-fold: this also serves as an illustration for how individuals who wish to have intellectual discussions on this forum can present their ideas without instigating heated tirades.

Not all individuals consume the material presented as porn and not all of the material presented has been intended by their creators as porn. If you are going to define things as porn just because some individuals get off on it then MLP is a porn show. I personally think your conceptionalization of what porn is flawed.

The forum has members who express homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, racism, and sexism. The concentration is slightly higher than I encounter in the real world and I live in Texas.

That's severely disappointing...

To be fair, I am in the most LGBT friendly city in Texas, so my views may be skewed

I dunno. I'm in the Pacific Northwest and I'm inclined to agree.

I don't think it's got to do with the people on this forum being bad eggs to a degree greater than the general population. Anonymity just enables people to behave very badly with fewer "real world" consequences so the bigotry is more prevalent here than in meat life where people get punched in the face for being assholes.

As previously stated though, I think being decent to fat people is more common here than in meat life. That's not because fat people are people though. It's because fat people are some people's fetish, which is sill dehumanising and doesn't really count for decent human being cred.
