Sketch Animation

Did a little growth animation to pass the time this afternoon and realized that I kinda forgot everything I learned from last time I animated something. I don't post here often enough to be sure if I should be posting little snippets of stuff here or if I should wait until I have something more substantial but here we are, I guess?

Little snippets are always wonderful to see. Doing a great job to I'd love to see something you threw together to pass the time.

Honestly add a hold frame and let her eyes move from side to side to convey her confusion in what just happened. Solid start for a simple four or frame loop. Can't wait to see you do more

Something kinda like this, then? I'm guessing what you mean by "hold frame".

Re: Sketch Animation

Bingo. See how more character the gif has now. Animation timing is really what separates the doodlers from the animators.

Foxmaster's suggestion worked out better, I think, because it adds enough of a pause to let the growth animation sink into a person's mind while adding character reaction too. Nice work for what little effort went into it. You should get bored more often. Lol

Re: Sketch Animation

The original was great but that small detail with the eyes made it even better! Great work! Here's hoping for more!

Yeah, I agree with everyone. The add near the end suggested by Foxmaster made this a whole lot better. I mean it was good originally, but the little detail that was added at the end made it way better. But just goes to show how adding even the smallest bit of detail, makes a huge difference. It's something we should all remember. But I'm rambling on here... great gif, thank you for sharing.

Yeah, I'm definitely glad he suggested the fix. I'm no master at art, and less so with animation, so I'm bound to make mistakes like this.

I'm really happy people seem to be enjoying the animation, too!

Re: Sketch Animation

I actually liked the original, but Foxmaster's suggestions put this over the top to my "definitely THIS" column.

Re: Sketch Animation

Wow, didn't expect my simple suggestion to get everyone so riled up :P

And to the artist, there was no mistakes. What I said was in no way negative feedback. You clearly have a good basic understanding of animation and will only grow from here. What I pointed out was a suggestion to make the animation more polished and appealing to a bigger audience.

I'm not going to say I work as an Animation Supervisor at a certain big name animation house in Los Angeles, I'll just leave it at that. I can't draw very well, but I do know how to tell my artist how to improve their work.

Heck if you wanted to go further with this animation break the growth into three spurts each with its own hold. Then incorporate additional eye and mouth movement, every time the character is about to say something or react in a bigger way in regards to the growth, FHWOMP another spurt. Gives the viewer more to see and increases the length/impact of the animation without adding to many extra frames.

If you ever want or need any direction or feedback let me know.
